“it always seems impossible till it’s done.”
– Joanna Boo,
COO / Partner,
Tell us about yourself, your company and what is your role in your company?
As the Chief Operating Officer and Partner at Swiss-Asia Financial Services, I oversee the firm’s fund services, ensuring we maintain operational excellence while navigating a competitive financial landscape. With over 15 years of experience in financial services, fintech, and alternative fund management, I bring a strong focus on risk management, regulatory compliance, and innovation to the firm.
Swiss-Asia is a pioneer in Wealth Management, Hedge Fund Management, and Family Office services. We provide tailored incubation spaces for wealth managers and hedge funds, giving them access to the critical infrastructure and support they need to grow. Our extensive experience, combined with a broad global network of industry suppliers, ensures we deliver competitive advantages to our clients across a wide range of services.
Technology is at the heart of what we do. By continually investing in market-leading software and systems, we maintain a cutting-edge approach to fund management, staying one step ahead of market trends. This focus on innovation allows us to offer clients the tools and systems required to navigate today’s fast-evolving financial environment.
Swiss-Asia is recognized as a leading independent wealth management and fund platform in Asia. Our Singapore entity holds a Capital Markets Services (CMS) License under the Singapore Securities and Futures Act (SFA), enabling us to conduct regulated activities in fund management and advisory for accredited investors.
In my role, I ensure that we continue to expand our offerings, streamline operations, and maintain our high standards of integrity across all aspects of the business. My focus is to drive our growth while ensuring we remain the trusted partner for wealth managers and investors looking for expertise in Asia’s financial landscape.
What is wealth management to you?
To me, wealth management is much more than simply managing wealth—it’s about helping clients manage an essential aspect of their lives. It’s not just about growing and protecting assets; it’s about providing peace of mind, freeing them from the complexities of financial planning so they can focus on enjoying the fruits of their labour. Our goal is to build long-lasting relationships based on trust and understanding, ensuring that our clients’ financial goals align with their life aspirations.
At Swiss-Asia, we tailor our wealth management strategies to the unique needs of each client, leveraging our deep expertise and a global network to deliver personalized solutions. Whether it’s navigating market volatility or planning for generational wealth, we aim to provide clarity and confidence, empowering our clients to live the lives they’ve worked so hard for.
3 things I’ve learned over time, and probably more acutely the last 3 years thanks to my team, clients, friends and family:
- One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is that ‘it always seems impossible till it’s done.’ In my role as COO, whether it’s launching new fund platforms, navigating complex regulatory environments, or driving operational changes, I’ve often encountered challenges that seemed daunting at first. But by breaking them down into manageable steps and maintaining a persistent, solution-driven mindset, I’ve seen how even the most difficult tasks can be accomplished.
- Another key lesson is that ‘if you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.’ Over the past three years, I’ve been reminded of the importance of collaboration. Leading a team requires trust and the ability to harness the strengths of diverse talents. My experience at Swiss-Asia and previous roles have shown me that lasting success is built on collective effort and shared vision. Together, we’ve been able to scale new heights, from securing key regulatory licenses to growing assets under management.
- Lastly, I’ve come to appreciate that ‘perfection is the enemy of good.’ In a fast-paced industry like financial services, striving for perfection can lead to missed opportunities or paralysis by analysis. I’ve learned to balance high standards with pragmatism, knowing when good enough is truly good enough to move forward and achieve real impact.
