Sheryl Fofaria leads Social Impact and Philanthropy for UBS across Southeast Asia, including philanthropy advisory and execution services, as well as impact in the community.

She has 18 years of experience spanning philanthropy and finance. Prior to joining UBS, Sheryl led J.P. Morgan’s Philanthropy Centre in Europe, the Middle East & Africa for 8 years – advising wealth management clients on using strategic philanthropy to tackle social and environmental issues. She has advised institutional asset managers and hedge funds on their cross-asset macro and Asian equity strategies at UBS Investment Bank in both London and Hong Kong. She also has grassroots experience running programmes for a social enterprise focused on diversity, inclusion and social mobility.

Sheryl holds an undergraduate degree in Economics & Management from Cambridge University and postgraduate in International Development from the London School of Economics and Political Science. She is an advocate for innovative and entrepreneurial approaches to global development and passionate about learning from different cultures, having been born and brought up in Africa, educated in Europe, and travelled extensively through Africa, South America, Australia, New Zealand and Asia.

Egwin Fan is an Associate in the Asia Pacific office at Convergence, responsible for design funding, market acceleration, and member engagement activities in the region. Prior to joining Convergence, he led business development and strategic partnerships in the UBS Philanthropy Services Southeast Asia team and supported the execution of business initiatives and strategic projects in the Asia Pacific Sustainable Finance Office at UBS Singapore. Egwin graduated with a Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Public Policy and Global Affairs and a Minor in Business from Nanyang Technological University. As a testament to his strong interest and expertise in climate change and sustainable development, he has served as a Climate Advocacy and Research Advisor for the Asia Regional Office of Save the Children International and attained the CFA Institute Certificate in ESG Investing.

David CHEE is a Partner in the Private Wealth and Middle East Practices. David was called to the bar in 2004 and apart from legal practice, he has also worked as an in-house counsel in trust companies and as a wealth planner in private banks. Having spent almost 20 years in the wealth management sector, David has deep industry insight and a strong network with industry participants. His principal areas of expertise are wealth and succession planning, trusts and philanthropy.

In the private wealth space, David advises ultra high-net-worth clients on all aspects of their international wealth and succession planning concerns which include generational wealth transfer, asset protection, asset preservation, family business succession, family governance, structured philanthropy, tax planning and the establishment of family trusts and family offices.

In the area of trusts, David also advises professional trustees on various matters related to their trust business, such as trust structuring and restructuring, licensing and regulatory requirements, risk management and the administration of trusts and estates. Apart from family trusts, David also advises on trusts in other areas such as charity, investments, debt restructuring, employee benefit programs, environmental restoration and rehabilitation projects.

In his philanthropy practice, David advises on the establishment, governance, regulatory requirements administration and restructuring of charities and non-profit or philanthropic entities. These include institutions of public character and donor advised funds. His clients include a sovereign wealth fund, a trade union, financial institutions, family offices and large business organisations.

David is a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners, the Law Society of Singapore and the Singapore Academy of Law. He serves on the boards of an international non-profit organisation and an Institution of Public Character. David is also an active speaker and trainer.

With over 13 years of dedicated experience in the impact sector, Carol is a seasoned professional specializing in philanthropic advisory and impact strategies. Her expertise spans across diverse entities including family offices, private and corporate foundations, as well as nonprofit and social enterprises.

Previously serving as the Head of Philanthropy at the North-East Family Office, Carol played a pivotal role in crafting bespoke philanthropic structures and strategies for the families. Notably, she spearheaded the establishment of the ECCA Family Foundation for the 2nd generation, where she currently serves as its inaugural Managing Director. In this capacity, she oversees philanthropic grants and impact investments, with a keen focus on advancing the family’s philanthropic ambition on Oceans, Biodiversity, and Underserved communities.

Before venturing into the philanthropic sector, Carol dedicated 8 years to the humanitarian and international development sector. During this period, she managed multi-million portfolio of relief and development programs spanning eight geographies in Asia, and developed evidence-informed impact management frameworks for more than 30 nonprofit organizations and social enterprises focusing on climate adaptation, sustainable livelihoods, education, and resilience building.

Mr. Phillip Wang was born in the UK to parents from mainland China. He studied Civil/Structural engineering in the UK and is a UK chartered structural engineer. He is married to Gail and they have 3 children.

After working in Hong Kong and the UK, he came to Singapore in 2002 and worked on a number of large projects including the National Library of Singapore and as project lead for a local architectural practice to deliver the Singapore Sports Hub in Kallang in 2015. He continues to be involved in the Department of Architecture at NUS where he has been consulting and teaching structural engineering design for architectural students since 2004. He has provided pro bono advice for projects in Cambodia, Philippines, Thailand and Japan.

Around 2004, a significant financial event occurred in Gail’s family enabling them to stay on in Singapore. It then took the next 20 years, while working and raising a family of 3 girls, to make some sense of the purpose of the wealth that they are now responsible for. Their Christian faith plays a significant part in how they are developing their approach.

Together they now manage their giving and impact investing in areas mostly involving conservation and marginalised communities. For several years, Gail has been a governor in the family foundation, Lien Foundation and serves on the board of Healthserve and Rainbow Centre. Phillip continues to be interested in the building industry, whether related to migrant labour issues or circular/sustainable economy construction. He and Gail are also involved with the conservation and biodiversity group A Rocha, hoping to expand their work in SE Asia. He is an avid swimmer and enjoys his music, tennis and whiskey.

Weina currently leads Sunline Foundation, a philanthropic initiative rooted in the desire to maximise the positive and long-term impact of the philanthropic capital from her family as well as that of the family business’ clients.

Weina has over ten years of experience in sustainable development consulting. Her past roles include head of research at a Singapore-based impact investment and social enterprise development NGO and sustainability consultant at Price Waterhouse Coopers in London. Through the field work she has carried out in Myanmar, Philippines, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Thailand and Peru, Weina has gained a deep understanding of the realities of social purpose organisations and the challenges they face. Since 2016, and prior to founding Sunline Foundation, Weina has been working with Sunline Wealth Management’s clients supporting them on their individual philanthropic endeavours.

Weina holds a BSc In Economics and Environmental Policy from the London School of Economics and a MSc in Environmental Management from Oxford University. She is fluent in English, French and Mandarin.

Joseph Gan is the CEO and Co-Founder of V-Key, a software-based digital security company headquartered in Singapore. V-Key powers ultra-high-security solutions for digital identities, user authentication and authorization, as well as electronic transactions for major banks, FinTechs, and governments. Prior to starting V-Key, Joseph led the cyber-security and cryptography labs in MINDEF’s CSIT.

Joseph has been a foster parent since 2016. He is currently fostering three children and has also adopted another ex-foster child. He is currently the Chairman for Home for Good, Singapore, which transformed from an informal network of Christian foster parents into a registered charity reaching out to grow and support a community of over 250 foster parents, befrienders, and volunteers.

Joseph is married to Tay Li Ping, a pastor in the Methodist Church of Singapore, and they have three biological children over 23 years of marriage. He also serves on the board of two other charities, various national committees in his capacity as a cyber-security leader, and as a Brigade Commander in his national service in the Singapore Army.

Hui is the Program Director for UBS Optimus Foundation’s Southeast Asia programs. Based in Singapore, she oversees the Foundation’s program portfolio in Southeast Asia and provide programmatic support to donors in the region. Together with the foundation, Hui is committed to improve health, education and well-being of the most vulnerable children, as well as environment and climate change. Prior to her current role, Hui managed the China program portfolio at UBS Optimus Foundation from 2020 to 2022.

Hui has over 15 years of experience in the non-profit sector and worked in various functions like grantmaking, project management, fundraising and partnership building. Hui has in-depth knowledge in working with children, volunteer management, and evidence-based philanthropy. Before joining UBS Optimus Foundation, Hui worked in the Asia Foundation, Save the Children International, and various local grassroot organizations. She also serves on the board of a local organization in China.

Hui has a Master of Global Public Policy from the University of Southern California and the University of Hong Kong, and a Bachelor of Science (Honors) in Computer Engineering from Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. She also holds a graduate diploma in Social Work from the National University of Singapore
